A man fell from the sixth floor balcony of Julien Apartments just before 2 p.m. April 23, sustaining minor injuries, police on scene said.

The individual was reportedly attempting to break into an apartment when police responded, chasing the man around the complex. In the ensuing struggle, police attempted to taze the individual and did, though one prong struck the man and the other struck a police officer, tazing both individuals. After breaking free from the officers, the alleged suspect leaped over railing. However, officers were able to grab the man before he fell.

As the police officers attempted to pull the individual back over the railing, he became more uncooperative and broke free from the offcier's grip, plummeting to the ground.

“It was a good struggle,” Officer Ed McLaughlin said. “He actually snapped off my radio.”

Paramedics arrived shortly after the man fell and treated what little injuries he apparently received. Police also reported that the man would be taken to Albert Einstein hospital to be checked out before being released back to the detectives in charge of the man’s case.

The commotion surrounding the event caught the attention of several La Salle students, some of whom neighbor the Julien apartments.

“We were outside because we were robbed last night—we thought it had something to do with that,” senior Tara Milmoe said. “Someone told us a guy was thrown off of the balcony.”

Despite its unusual nature, the event was over and cleared up in little less than an hour.
